Feeling inspired by the True Detective opening sequence, I explored how to get that double exposure aesthetic. With a little help from the world wide web, this is the visual direction I took it in. Frankly, there’s nothing groundbreaking going on here, and the folks at True Detective did a much better job, but I liked proving to myself I could do it. And since it’s gotta have a story, we went far out.
For those of you who aren’t aware (lets be honest, neither was I), Locus of Control was developed by this dude Julian B. Rotter in the 50’s to measure the extent to which individuals believe they can control events around them. It’s a concept of personality psychology that I stumbled upon a few days ago and the theme really stuck with me. I often wrestle with control, most often lack of, so I liked the visuals of huge, larger than life pieces of the world being internalized in the visuals of self. And with a little help from Braveyoung and Tyler, this turned into something I’m pretty fond of.
